Alfredo Capurso, piano tuner and technician, was born in Messina and trained in Milan, at Palloti Pianoforti.


From 1978 to 1991 he worked with Monzino Strumenti Musicali, as the first official Yamaha technician for Italy. In 1980 with the sponsorship of Yamaha Europe, Alfredo attended 5 individual seminars on improved piano preparation techniques, in Hamburg and Paris.

In 1989 and 1990, on behalf of Yamaha Musica Italia, he conducted a series of 10 seminars on “Piano Tuning, Voicing and Regulation” for thirty Italian technicians from a variety of backgrounds.

From 1991 to 2004, he was responsible for piano maintenance at the Vincenzo Bellini Musical Institute, in Catania.


Mr Capurso has been responsible for the preparation and maintenance of grand pianos for the following institutions and events:  Accademia di Imola; Accademia di Fiesole; Sanremo Festival (for 3 years); Stresa International Piano Competition (for 7 years); Marsala International Piano Competition (for 9 years); Trapani International Chamber Music Competition; Assisi Musica Pro Festival; the first “Mario Fillioley” Siracusa Musical Execution International Competition; Orta Festival; Barletta Piano Festival; MITO SettembreMusica; “Rina Sala Gallo” International Piano Competition.


In 2007, Mr Capurso gave his first address on the subject of the Chas Harmonic Temperament, at a conference (theme: “40 years after Mandelbrot”) organized by the University of Messina.

In 2010-2011 he worked with FAZIOLI Pianoforti as Instructor and Demonstrator at the Fazioli Showroom, in Milan; he prepared the F278 model for its first-ever use at the Teatro alla Scala, for pianist Louis Lortie.


As a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, sax, trumpet), Alfredo Capurso has been a member of a number of music groups and performed at concerts.


Currently he prepares and maintains pianos for public and teaching institutions and for private clients.
